Cargo containers

Following on from the industrial units, here are 4 cargo containers that I've painted up, for 15mm-scale Force on Force / Tomorrow's War / Crossfire / zombie apocalypse games.  These nice castings are 'Medium Cargo Containers' from Rebel Minis - simple but effective for adding that touch of 'realism' to the tabletop battlefield.

Industrial units

It took a couple of weeks, but I finally finished the pair of industrial units that I've been building for 15mm-scale zombie apocalypse games.  The main material is 5mm thick foamboard, with 3mm foamboard for internal walls, sections of matchsticks for window sills & door lintels, & thick card doors.  The windows are cut from transparent plastic packaging, with thin cardboard windowframes stuck around the edges (very fiddly at this scale!).  The outer walls were textured with paint thickener (readymix filler).  The roller shutters are sections of H Scale corrugated sheet from a model railway supplier.  I'm planning on having some scatter terrain such as crates to break up the internal space, but didn't want to go completely overboard with integral desks, shelving, & machinery etc.  I haven't bothered making a roof as it would be tiled & inaccessible. Next, I want to build a supermarket...

Hedgerows

I put together these two 15mm-scale hedgerows whilst working on a large scratchbuilt double industrial unit for zombie apocalypse games.  They are based on large lolly sticks, & are made from strips of thick polystyrene that I picked into rough hedge-like shapes with my fingers, before smoothing over with paint thickener (basically ready-mixed all-purpose filler in a tube).  I then painted the whole thing dark brown, before flocking the bases with Gale Force Nine earth & dead/winter static grass, & dry-brushing the upper hedges through a few dark greens.
They looked decent enough for gaming purposes by that point, but I added the final touch of some small Gale Force Nine meadow flock to better represent the texture.  These were very quick to make & I'm happy with how they turned-out. I will definitely be making some more of these (maybe some with telegraph poles) for my UK countryside setting.

Rotting zombies

This post is not for the weak of stomach - I've painted up some rotting zombies.  These especially gribbly 'walkers' are from the Khurasan Miniatures pack 'The Dead Set 2', from their Modern Zombies range.  I'm pleased with how these turned out - once I got the gloss varnish on the gore, they really came alive! ...err became undead!

Ragers

I painted these 6 Rage zombies at the weekend.  These nice sculpts are Rebel Minis 15mm Zombie 'Ragers'.  The modern day zombie apocalypse collection that I am working on will feature 'Ragers' as freshly-infected victims, whilst traditional 'Shambler' zombies will make up the bulk of the infected horde.  Painting civilians always drags a bit because of the variation in clothes, but I'm please with how these tiny miniatures turned-out - especially once I got the gloss varnish on the blood!

Even more survivors

Another batch of 15mm scale zombocalypse survivors finished.  These are all figures from Khurasan Miniatures's excellent 'The Living Set 2', & fans of The Walking Dead will spot a few familiar characters here.  These sculpts are brilliant quality, with great detail, I really enjoyed painting them.  They are all mounted on 1p coins, flocked with Gale Force 9 earth & dead/winter static grass.

Ghouls (WQ)

Last night I finished painting 1D3+2 Ghouls for my 15mm scale 3D Warhammer Quest set.  These figures are Khurasan Miniatures 'The Buried'.  I've long wanted to be able to run an entirely Undead-themed dungeon, so I will be adding skeletons, zombies, wights, & a vampire etc to my collection.

More survivors

I was basing-up & painting more 15mm scale zombie apocalypse survivors over the weekend.  The latest 3 that I've finished are based on 3 of my favourite characters from the zombie genre.  Shaun & Ed from 'Shaun of the Dead', & Michonne from 'The Walking Dead'.  The 2 male figures are from Rebel Minis's 'Civilian Hunters Pack 2', & the katana-wielding female figure is from Khurasan Miniature's 'The Living - Set 2'.

The Gaol (WQ)

I've just finished painting another scratch-built 3D dungeon tile for my 15mm scale Warhammer Quest project - The Gaol.  The Gaol was a special tile from an issue of White Dwarf.  It had several scenarios related to it - either involving the Warriors starting off imprisoned in The Gaol, or there being an enraged minotaur about to break free from it.  I built this mainly using 5mm foamboard, with sections of cocktail stick for the iron bars.  I textured the bars in the latrine hole with filler & painted them as rusted & covered in (eww) crap.  I also painted the mould on the walls & puddles on the floor with gloss varnish to add to the dank atmosphere.  In the future I may add some patches of 'straw' static grass as rudimentary bedding.
